Llandudno Junction/ Deganwy school bus service
I am writing with reference to the future of the bus services that the school run from Llandudno Junction and Deganwy, and to provide a further update since my letter last week.
I am grateful to all the parents who contacted me regarding our proposal to stop the service, and especially to those who took the time to meet with me to look at various solutions to the problems that we face in providing this service for you. Briefly these issues revolve around :
- the increased cost associated with the service, for a variety of reasons
- the ongoing implications of the PSVAR (2000) and
- the uncertainty of demand in light of Covid-19.
I am aware that these issues have been shared and discussed widely through various means, so I will not expand on them further here, but would be willing to provide more detail on request. I have also suggested that the school forms a ‘user-group’ with interested parties, including parents, so that we can communicate and discuss these issues with more clarity in the future.
However, I am delighted to inform you that following the discussions mentioned above, Alpine are able to continue to run these services in much the same way as they were last year, although there will be an increase in the cost to students to £350 per year. Although we recognise that is a significant increase, it remains substantially comparable with the cost of the equivalent travel offered by commercial companies, and of course in addition Alpine will continue to provide all the benefits of a bespoke school transport service. We hope therefore that the provision of this service will continue to be of substantial benefit to you and your children.
Students will therefore be able purchase an annual pass for £350.00, payable either by cash or cheque (to Ysgol Aberconwy) or by 10 direct debit instalments of £35 per month.
In either case, I would be grateful if you could complete the attached form and return it to school by Monday 7th September, together with payments and forms as indicated.
Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate students who apply to use these services, it should be noted that there will be a limit on the number of passes we can provide, corresponding to the number of seats on the buses. As such provision will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis.
In light of the tight timeframes involved, we will issue a temporary two-week pass, free of charge, to any students wishing to use these services at the start of the term, but thereafter, an annual pass will be required for access to the services. I would also ask that you remind your son / daughter that the “no pass, no travel” rule adopted by CCBC will also apply to this service and that they should adhere to the school bus behaviour code (available on our website) if they wish to continue using this service.
I trust that these arrangements will mean that we can continue to provide safe and affordable transport for your child to / from school. If you have any queries about the provision of this transport or any of the payment arrangements please contact the school.
With kind regards,
I.A. Gerrard (Headteacher)
