Ysgol Aberconwy has just won the ‘Best Secondary School’ award at the North Wales Educational Awards!
These awards, presented on behalf of the Free Press, the Journal and the Pioneer, honour the achievements of teachers and students across Conwy and Denbighshire, celebrating their commitment and contribution to their schools and to educational initiatives within their community.
Breaking with the usual tradition of an awards ceremony, this year the awards were presented in the schools themselves. Headteacher Ian Gerrard, along with a group of excited Ysgol Aberconwy students, were presented with the award, he said, “I am delighted to receive this reward on behalf of the whole school community. It is a testament to the hard work of all the staff, students and governors at the school as well as those in the wider community who support the school in so many ways. We work tirelessly to try to give children an outstanding education and to create a happy, inclusive and dynamic learning community that inspires, supports and challenges everyone – it is lovely when that hard work is recognised in awards such as this, but also as we see the children we work with flourish and develop in to confident, kind and thoughtful young people.”
Sixth Form student Amelia said, “It’s an amazing achievement, the hard work everyone puts into it, the opportunities we’ve had throughout the school, I’ve had six, seven years here now and it’s been absolutely amazing.”
Parents were generous in their praise too, with one nomination stating, ”Ysgol Aberconwy is an amazing school that puts its pupils first. My son has had a lot of health problems since he started and they have been absolutely unbelievable. Amazing! They have helped so much that it’s made such a difference to his life, and education. I can’t even mention all they have done as there is just so much.”
