We look forward to welcoming prospective students and their families to our open evening on the 3rd of October, between 5pm and 7pm, when we will open our doors so that you can take a look around the school and meet some of our staff and students.
Find out what some of our staff, students and parents think of life and learning at Ysgol Aberconwy by watching the short video clips.
There is lots of useful information on this website, including our news and events pages that might help you to get a feel for the school, so take a look around. Have a look at the information in the sections below to get a better idea of what we do here at Ysgol Aberconwy and the opportunities that are available for year 6 students and their families:
Curriculum
We want all of our students to achieve their potential and develop into young adults who embody the Four Purposes of the Curriculum for Wales, that they become: ambitious, capable learners; enterprising, creative contributors; healthy, confident individuals and ethical, informed citizens. The curriculum we offer is central to achieving this, please visit our Curriculum page to find out more.
Student Support
Ysgol Aberconwy has well established arrangements for identifying and providing for individual students’ additional learning needs. It is our policy to assess students’ needs as early as possible.
After careful diagnostic testing, students follow individually tailored programmes. Where students have needs which require the co-operation of outside agencies, it is the responsibility of the ALNCO to make the necessary contacts.
During all stages in the provision for a student’s additional learning needs, we seek to work closely with parents, and emphasise the importance of good working relationships between the school and home.
Ysgol Aberconwy supports and promotes the education of all children, including the specific needs of Looked After Children. The member of staff responsible for this area is Mrs Jessica Meredydd.
The school employs a team of teaching assistants that work on a 1:1 basis with individual students, small group work as well as providing intervention programmes.
The school houses the Conwy Centre for Dyslexia, ABCD. The teacher responsible for this area is Helen Samuel. Please contact the school for further information.
The school also houses ‘Tegfan‘ the County’s provision for students with ASD and neurodevelopmental difficulties. There are two teachers and a team of teaching assistants working in this area.
We have a specialist inclusion centre called ‘Y Ganolfan’ that is well resourced including sensory equipment and a state of the art acoustic POD as well as 1:1 support and group work. Students also have access to therapeutic support from a qualified counsellor.
Please note that the school is fully accessible for students with disabilities.
