Business Language Champions (BLC) came to North Wales to host a business language event in Ysgol Aberconwy for year 9 language learners. Schools from Conwy and Gwynedd attended, nine teams in total representing the German, French and Spanish languages.
The event was called ‘Glastonbury Goes Global‘. In their language teams, students had to work together throughout the course of the day on tasks associated with arranging an international music festival. Students had to choose a country where their festival would take place, where their target language is spoken, and carefully choose a major singer or representative of that country/language as a ‘draw’ to bring in the crowds.
The language elements of the competition included ordering materials against a budget in order to build a model of their festival, create and ask questions to ask the headline act, create a YouTube advert for their festival, and ‘sell’ their festival idea to the other teams.
Congratulations to Ethan, Stanley, Dylan, Lillie, Toby and Grace who made up the Ysgol Aberconwy German team for gaining second place in the competition thanks to a team effort and Ethan’s ‘gift of the gab’ when selling their idea! Well done also to Zina who won an award for outstanding effort, and also to Mabon, George, Anya and Arwen who were in our French team.
All teams put in a great effort and an enjoyable, successful day was had by all.
