GCSE, AS And A Level Qualifications

Dear Parent/Carer,

Firstly, let me say what a pleasure it has been to see your children back in school over the last few days.  I hope they have enjoyed linking up with their friends and their teachers again, and have been able to focus on getting back into the routine of school and the requirements of exam boards for their qualifications this summer.

With this in mind, I write with an update and some important information for you on the way GCSE, AS and A level qualifications will be assessed this summer.  You can find a letter, addressed to students across Wales, HERE, and details of the things we will be doing as a school below.

You will already know that:

  • Schools will be determining GCSE, AS and A level grades for students this year, rather than the traditional examination process,
  • We will be gathering evidence to support these judgements during the remainder of this academic year,
  • Provisional grades will be issued to students in early to mid June.
  • Students can ask us to review them at that stage before they are submitted to exam boards at the end of June.
  • Final results will be issued to students on August 10th (AS/A Level) and August 12th (GCSE level)
  • There will be an additional appeals process following these results days, should the need arise.

We are acutely aware of the pressure that some students will be feeling as the evidence gathering process continues over the next few weeks, and want to reassure you that we will do our very best to schedule questions and tasks as sensitively as possible during that period.  Students who would normally expect additional access requirements can also be reassured that these will be in place as they are needed.

We feel that one of the most important things we can do to help is to give you accurate and timely information. So we would like to invite you to:

  1. read the attached document summarising what evidence we will be gathering for each subject over the coming weeks.
  2. attend a Q&A session, held virtually through TEAMs, with senior staff at 11am on Thursday 25th March (CLICK HERE) or 4pm on Friday 26th March (CLICK HERE). We will schedule further events early next term, so if you are unable to attend these sessions, please look out for these.

We hope that you find this information useful and will take the time to look through it with your son or daughter to support them at this important time.  If we can offer any further assistance, guidance or support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

With kind regards,

Ian Gerrard
